It is amazing that when parents try to make their kids lives to seem beautiful, they actually end up becoming beautiful. We tried to make Sean's surgery to be a "special" circumstance in his life and I am quite sure we succeded at it. His daddy told him about smelling bubble gum flavored gas to help him fall asleep. That seemed awesome to Sean! Nena (my mom) told him in the sweetest way how he would have perfect vision after he woke up from his little nap. I just told him a billion times how much I loved him and how wonderful he was. Nothing about the surgery. I just wanted to cry every time I got to mention it!!
Anyhow, when we arrived to the hospital, Sean was joyful! there was a rainbow on the front of the hospial, there were toys everywhere and there were friends in every floor. It basically was a smaller version of Disneyland to him. Doctors and nurses were great to all of us. Nena, daddy and I were with Sean every second. Papa (my dad) and Patrick stayed home waiting for us.
It all went wonderful!!! However when I first saw him out of surgery he was all curled up in fetal position on his hospital bed. He just seemed so little to me, so vulnerable. I felt like holding him the way I used to when he was a little baby. I couldn't. He seemed so peaceful. I did not want to interrupt this picture perfect moment.
I want to thank every one of you who prayed for this miracle to happen in my family. Receiving your phone calls and emails right after the surgery was absolutely strengthening to my heart. My boy is almost ready to go back to school, and his eyes (even though they are still bright red) look straight and beautiful. He is happy playing with Patrick, reading books (well, looking at the pictures!!) and playing "Mario" (Nintendo)!!
