33

If you want to get to know me better, these are 33 amazing facts about myself.

1. I hate to be called Gabriela.

2. The first time I cooked dinner for my entire family was when I was 10. I was not allowed to use the stove. I made everything using the microwave oven.

3. I hate email forwards - especially the ones that tell me I don't love Jesus or that I won't get blessed if I don't forward to 12 friends, 18 cousins, etc...

4. I get very annoyed at people on the road especially people that drive slowly when I'm in a hurry or the ones who want to pass me when I am driving at the speed limit. What's up with you people??? oh! and also people who don't turn their signal on when changing lanes.

5. Once someone becomes my real friend, I'm absolutely loyal.

6. I love taking care of my family.
7. I still keep the navy blue Eddie Bauer pants I wore on my first date with my husband. Someday they will fit me again.

8. I'd much rather send someone a comment on facebook or an email before I'd make a phone call. I hate those awkward silent moments. I always feel responsible for keeping the conversation going if I'm the one who called. Email is just easier. There's no pressure and it never gets misconstrued or misunderstood.

9. I'm sarcastic. Just ask my husband.

10. Our honeymoon was 45 min away from where we lived.

11. The first time I ever went on a plane was when I was 2. I went to Paris. Fancy, right? I have not been back ever since.

12. My 2nd degree teacher used to call us idiots all the time. My mom threatened the school she would sue him, unless he stopped. She has basically threatened everyone who messed around with her kids with the same thing.

13. The summer of 1992 I grew up 3 in.

14. During family reunions at my grandparents', my cousins and I would make prank phone calls for hours.

15. My skin is brown, but it used to be a lot darker when I was little. Michael Jackson techniques?

16. I started to get teenage acne when I turned 23.

17. Last October about 100 birds pooped on my head while sitting on our jungle gym. I started to cry.

18. I like to make people laugh, it only works with my family members.

19. A few years back I fell down the stairs. Broke both of my legs. A year later, I fell down again, luckily I only got one broken leg this time. This year, I fell down the stairs...no broken bones this time.

20. Baby #1 was 2 months early. Baby #2 was 1 month early. Baby #3 was 1 week early.

21. The moment when I met my husband, I had a booger in my nose. He told me that when we had been married for a couple of years.

22. I don't drink. I don't smoke...and now, I cannot eat (weight watchers).

23. I am a teaser. Mainly when my brother makes grammar mistakes. I never forget them and every time I remember them, I laugh at him again. He doesn't find it funny.

24. I love to kiss my kids.

25. I scratch my husband's back every night, since the day we got married.

Crafty me

The other day while wasting my time surfing the web, I found a website that I really liked. It had a lot of crafts in there that look like those kinds of things that you only get to see when you go to a country crafts type of store in Utah. For those in Utah, I know you get them in every corner. On the contrary, for me in cold Michigan, well...we only get to see cars and nice fancy trucks. Anyway, I tried to make a few and guess what???? they were awful! but if you guys know me, you know I tried and tried again until "something decent" could be made by my pretty hands.

These are a few things that I have made in the last month. Do you like them? I hope so! I know they still look "homemade" but I looooooooooove them!!!

My home

Sometimes I wonder if I would ever have a chance to live there again. I miss my home, my language and my people. It is not the same to see Mexicans somewhere else; definitely not the same when in the US every single Spanish speaker is identified as a Latino. I miss my identity, my background.

I wish I could have had a videocamera recording my life so I could show my children now, how precious my childhood was. How different it was from what they are getting to experience during their early years here in Michigan. No snow, only mommy-made food, everything from scratch, cartoons in Spanish, the ability to walk to the little store in the corner to get some spicy candy...oh, those wonderful moments of my childhood. If they could only see it through my eyes, they would fall in love with my city, my Mexico City.

Living in Mexico with a little family of my own was great, but it was only a glimpse compared to what it actually was to grow up there. I wish my children could see how wonderful my teenage years were. How different they were from what I know they will experience here in the US. Parties did not have to be church parties so everything could be under control. A guitar and somebody with a nice voice was the only thing we needed to have a fantastic evening. If they could see it through my eyes, they would adore my country, my city, my Mexico City.

Mexico City, I miss you. I miss you with all my heart. I hope someday I can go back to show my kids how wonderful it is to be called a Mexican, to see sunny skies 300 days of the year, to be happy because there is music in the background and a delicious meal with no preservatives on your table.

I wonder who stole my camera?

I was looking for my camera everywhere! I needed it! Allie was doing the perfect pose for the one million dollar smile! I looked for it inside my drawers, cupboards, purse, etc...and then all of the sudden I feel a flash on my back! Patriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick! come heeeeeeeeeeeeere!

Anyway, even if he had not taken that last picture, which gave him away, I guess sooner of later I would have found out that he was the little devil to blame for. What do you think?
